There is too much here in your posting to answer without a great deal of thought. A quick response, though:

Being a dumpling has nothing to do--contrary to what we have always been told--with being sexually attractive. Truckloads of men who are dumplings give the lie to the thought.

Sometimes it's having power and/or wealth.

Sometimes, for both sexes, it is simply having the power that comes from knowing one is sensual and sexually attractive. A great deal of sex is in the mind, as you know. This is as thoroughly the case for men as for women.

We both know that there is so much to this exchange than can ever be expressed because we have lived and watched other people's lives.

The arrangement that you describe is repugnant to me personally--although I have many reasons to acknowledge its existence and its flourishing--and I can say that my marriage was not of this order. It foundered on different rocks.

It has been my observation (personally) that dumplinghood is a sort of scapegoat. If the personal relationship is truly vibrant and the sexual relationship is imbued with this vibrancy, a few extra pounds is not going to make a difference.

Of course, it is worth considering the women who may gain weight as a way of fending off their husbands' advances.
