I just got a chance to view the 1999 Outlook video tape called "Collective Wisdom" from Merrill Lynch. The tape label is dated January 20, 1999, so it's fairly recent.
I don't trade with Merrill, but a friend does and lent me his tape (45 minute video) for viewing. This looks like it was a worldwide videoconference, complete with call in questions from participants.
In technology, they had very specific sectors and picks around the shift that supports the Internet. Here are their picks/sectors:
Internet: AOL, Lycos, 24/7 Media, Inc. Telecom Equipment (buy infrastruture): Cisco, LU, General Instrument Computer: IBM, Sun, EMC (storage) Semi (Merrill thinks fundamental shift is occuring from PC to communications equipment): Broadcom, Vitesse
These picks were from Steve Milunovich, who does Merrill's Techology Fundamental Research.
Nice to hear Merrill is pushing VTSS.
