Stocks to Watch:
I think net IPO season is just getting started and if the market continues to rally through April, there should be some good plays.
(Note IPO dates are subject to change) RoweCom (ROWE) expected week of 3/8.
Cheaptickets (CTIX) expected week of 3/15. TMCS could be a sympathy play though the USAI/LCOS deal is currently holding the stock down. TMCS float = 7mil/ out 70mil, price on 3/5 was 34 11/16/
Flashnet Communications (FLAS) expected week of 3/15. ASND (79 3/16) owns some. FLAS has a major contract with PSIX.
IVillage (IVIL) expected week of 3/15. AOL(86 15/16) and THC(19 1/2) both own some. THC float is 241mil/out310).
Multex (MLTX) expected week of 3/15. RTRSY(86 3/8) owns some. Not sure if MKTW or INDI will be sympathy plays here. If not, they should be good as sympathy plays for thestreet.com when it IPOs week of 4/26.
ZDNET (ZDZ) expected week of 3/15. ZD(18 3/4) of course owns it.
Autobytel (ABTL) expected week of 3/22. Possible sympathy plays RII(14 15/16) float 310/out 467 and CD(16 7/16) float 656mil/out 853.
Priceline.com (PCLN) expected late March. Possible sympathy play PTVL(22 3/8) float 7.7/out13.5). PTVL has also been rumored as a buyout candidate for the last month. IFLY (5 3/8) float 1.5/out 7.5. And of course the warrants, IFLYW (2 3/4). Other auction type stocks might also run in sympathy. And CheapTickets might be a sympathy play if it's out before PCLN. Quote from Barron's this week: "priceline.com is likely to be a star".
OneMain.com expected week of 3/22. Possible sympathy play GEEK(25 5/8) float 2.3/out 6.3.
MiningCo.com (MINE) expected soon. OTEX (21 3/8) (float 9.9/out 20.2) owns some.
Silknet Software (SILK) expected soon. Both CMGI and INTC own some. CMGI earnings are 3/11 so CMGI should run anyway. Possible sympathy plays BVSN(50 1/4) float 10/out24, SEBL(49 3/8) float 33/out 88, VNTV(12 1/8) float14.4/out26, MSTG(2 1/2) float 2.9/out 4, INFR(6 3/4) float 4/out 6.9. I think this IPO will do well and I like MSTG as a good sympathy play.
NetSolve (NTSL) expected week of 3/22.
Razorfish expected week of 3/29. For some reason I can't pull up the SEC filing for this one and about a dozen others. If anyone knows why I can't pull them up on Hoover's please let me know.
ValueAmerica (VUSA) expected week of 3/29.
Critical Path (CPTH) expected week of 3/29. Both CMGI and EGRP own some.
WebMD (WBMD) expected soon. PTEK(9 5/8) float 38/out 45) owns some. Possible sympathy plays ADAM(5 3/4) float 1.8/out4.4. HLTH (29 7/32) float 5/out 69.
Others expected in the next two months: Etoys, thestreet.com, USinternetworking, Marimba, iTurf, LogOnAmerica, Portal Software, Claimsnet.com, Rhythms Netconnections, NetRadio, Comps.com, Media Metrix, MapQuest.com, Musicmaker.com, Extreme Networks, Proxicom, ForeignTV.com, Net Perceptions, Net Objects, Internet Financial Services(AB Watley), Autoweb, ConsumerNet Marketplace, BarnesAndNoble.com, OneSource.com, Dragon Systems, CAIS internet. I'm sure I'm missing some. And I'll update these for own/sympathy later.
Having said all that, I think CMGI, CNET, DCLK, and DELL will be the plays on Monday. EBAY scares me here but it might still be in play. YHOO having a hard time with 160 area, will this be the week it breaks out? SEVL also should continue to be in play as rumor has it there is more news to come and it was shorted like crazy at the close on friday. NTFY might be nice to buy on any good dips. ELCO bounced on Friday so it might be one to watch. Also, XLNX splits on 3/11, GBLX on 3/9, while NSOL splits 3/23. IATV was mentioned in Broadband week this weekend.
Recent IPOs that are getting oversold are ITRA and MMPT. USLB and PCOR bounced on friday. NESY might be one to watch.
IACO might be a good long term play, but selling might not be done yet. And it appears to be more of a 2nd half of the year play.
Barron's stocks: NOVL being touted on the cover as an interent play. CPWR, CHKPF, SDTI, and BEAS touted as internet security plays. And the stocks all seem reasonably priced right now. Barron's also pointed out that insiders have not sold SEEK or PSIX even though lockup periods have long since expired which they think is bullish. Barron's calls NITE the worlds largest MarketMaker and that it has garnered 15% of the trading volume on the NASDAQ. And, it seems to have upset the traditional MarketMakers for creating disorderly openings (lol, me and the MarketMakers are on the same side of this issue? Yikes!) Nevertheless, I do expect NITE shares to rock again some day soon.
Let's not forget that CNET (along with DRIV, ATHM, and XCIT) was predicted to be the next monsters by RS. CNET is starting to show monster stripes. Is ATHM next? |
