Eric, you did NOT miss it if you read my posts prior to May 1, 1998 when Duisenberg was sworn in and took his place as the ECB. They took over the old EMU ways and means, sans 2 countries. AT THAT TIME...it was well known fact, and one that I posted which was documentable and probably still is, except I don't have that URL anymore...
ANYHOW, the old EMU had 27.5 gold backing, a public utterance that is still on the history books in several locations.
Therefore, when the game du jour was guessing the amount of goldbacking, I put my money down on 30 and got damn near hooted out of existance for saying same, on the GPM and GOLD-XAU threads.
Sho' nuff, old Duisseyboy popped up, scratched something important, pulled on his long chin and intoned...about 15% boyz...and the world slapped each other on the back, thumbed their collective noses and me.
Ask ole Mack the Knife...he was one of the biggest hooters on GPM for my call and my unwavering belief that once again the wool had been pulled over the B's eyes.
Now, there are 30% backing noises...
HEY JIM>>>>>I WAS RIGHT!!!!!!PHFTTTTTTTT =/:^P (you ole d/s!)
Ahhhhh, that sho'felt good...now I'll be a nice prospector and go see if I can dig up that 27.5 EMU gold backing article for you if it's still on my harddrive that is...

First pass on my harddrive only turned up Ted Arnold's Jan 18 1998 call for 20% backing... I'll keep looking. It's probably in that massive EIU document prefaced by and authored over Mayer Rotschild's sig. |
