Bob,
The Object Design web site (now at www.objectdesign.com) links to the following press release, which announces that webMethods B2B integrates with ObjectStore (I wrongly said Excelon in my previous post)
corporate-ir.net
Here is some of the release:
Benefits of Partnership with Object Design, Inc. webMethods has teamed with Object Design, Inc. (ODI) to provide a complete solution for XML-based business-to-business integration for mission-critical applications. webMethods B2B will be integrated with the ObjectStore ODBMS, and will take advantage of ObjectStore's industry-leading high-availability, continuous operation features. Additionally, this integration provides webMethods B2B with a dynamic repository for the storage and maintenance of XML documents. ''We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Object Design, and we are convinced that together our products offer customers the industry's most robust solution for XML-based business-to-business integration,'' says Phillip Merrick.
Support and Compatibility webMethods B2B is available for all platforms that support Java, including Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT, Sun Microsystems Solaris, Linux, Hewlett Packard HP-UX, Compaq Unix, and IBM AIX, AS/400, and OS/2. The product integrates with DBMS products such as Oracle, Informix, and Microsoft SQL Server, and Web server products from Microsoft and Netscape. webMethods B2B for R/3 provides off-the-shelf integration with SAP R/3 and can be customized to integrate with other ERP applications including Baan, PeopleSoft and J.D. Edwards.
Based on this, and the discussion I had with a member of Object Design staff, I believe that ObjectStore is just one of many database management systems that B2B supports.
Furthermore, while I hope this turns out wonderfully, these things can easily fizzle out. I only found out recently about another PR release that Object Design made a couple of years ago, regarding a successful deployment. The deployment was successful, as claimed, but for reasons that have nothing to do with Object Design, the software is no longer in use. These things happen. |
