Isn't it amazing how often we agree? A mutual admiration society we have here, it seems. We'll have to find something about which we can quarrel now and then.

And you are quite correct, I do dress to emphasize the "positives" and think that I'd look ridiculous in a cat suit. Yet I really want to stress that surprising as it may be, appearance seems to count for relatively little after the first moments. (Like the joke about hitting the mule over the head with a club: You have to get his attention first.)

Example: Feeling "chubby" and suffering an attack of rosacea, I nonetheless found myself one evening cooking dinner ahead to eat with A the following night, rescheduling B for later in the week so I could see C, in an ICQ chat with D, and fielding phone calls from E setting up dinner.

I walked into the bathroom and looked into the mirror, thinking, "This is ridiculous, looking the way I do and at my age!" (47, saving everyone the time of rushing to my profile) And I realized that the cause is who I am, not merely my appearance.

If we all understood this from an early age, we might save ourselves a lot of heartache.
