Absolutely correct. Cant fund an IRA outside 2k a year, etc. so you cant come up with cash if short sale which could have unlimited losses moves against you. Also, most custodians would say its not prudent in an IRA give the risk factor of unlimited. But mainly, the former reason excludes shorts in an IRA.
