3Com's Recent Missteps May Lead Rivals To Eye Firm (COMS) - Report

(NewsTraders.com)-- 3Com Corp.'s (COMS) shares fell hard last week after
announcing that it would miss analysts' third quarter earnings estimates, which
might lead rivals to think about acquiring the company, Edgar Masri, 3Com's new
enterprise networks chief, told Network World Fusion.

Highlights:
- "I'm not saying that we'd like to be acquired. All I'm saying is that
given the slowdown in the market there is a risk that some companies will startlooking at us and see that 3Com is undervalued," Masri said.
- "We believe that we have enough strengths to go ahead independently," he
added.
- Masri also said that "customers should be concerned" that 3Com could be
acquired as a result of its weak stock and general market slowdown.
- The company leads in the small to medium-size enterprise market, and also
dominates in selling network interface cards and stackable workgroup switches,
but 3Com has lagged in penetrating into the large enterprise networks, according
to Industry Standard.
