There has been some interesting news this week from the computer industry.

1. On CNBC CEO of Western Digital says current quarter is very strong. Talking head analyst sees this as a good indication of strong computer sales - recommends buying the box makers.

2. Dell comes out with very positive outlook of computer sales as a whole for the next few years.

3. H&Q raises Oak Technology (leading supplier of CD-Rom controllers) from hold to strong buy citing that demand for the controllers has not slowed down from the December quarter.

My take: MMX has really lifted computer sales this quarter. I know alot of people who were waiting for MMX to come out before purchasing a new computer. Wouldn't strong consumer PC demand bode extremely well for IOM? The shorts on this board have been very skeptical about IOM being able to meet 1Q numbers (.14, I believe). However, remember IOM did .09 in 3Q when the computer industry was a little in the doldrums and there were enormous problems in Europe. Now IOM is enjoying explosive growth in Europe and the domestic PC environment seems to be vivrant with the arrival of the MMX chip.

Conclusion: I wouldn't want to be short IOM or any computer related stocks right now. 1Q estimates may prove to be conservative. Only time will tell.
