From what I understand, the current Fingerscan application at Woolworth's and the potential use of Fingerscan at other retailers in North America is a "time & attendance" application designed to prevent "buddy punching", "ghost workers", and other abuses of the paper time card systems currently in place. A fingerprint can not be given to a fellow worker like a time card or a magnetic ID Badge to punch in when the worker is not actually present.

Another potential use of Fingerscan at retailers anywhere in the world is in combination with VeriFone's credit card scanner to verify the user of the credit card or to record the fingerprint of somebody cashing a large check. The fingerprint could be used later to prove fraud or aid collection if the check or credit card balance was not honored.
