KJ Duke, but Coke makes its sugar water and distributes it,Nike makes its shoes and distributes it. EBAY makes nothing but trouble and profits for people in the big house, and pirates of software, they do not even police what is being sold very well. How do information providers make money? By selling advertising to Nike,Coke et all. Well if all information is free, especially the crap that goes for information nowadays, how can you sell advertising, and to whom? The killer app for the internet is the stock market, when the bubble burst so does the internet.
And as far as brick and mortar companies go,there is a barrier to entry, you need to build the buildings. And as far as fraud on the internet goes,by people you never see and don't know where they exist, its rampant.
Did you see the survey recently, I lost it. Approximately 70% of the people who use the internet say they could care less if it exists, and if it goes away. Does RNWK have a real business model looking at a one inch screen that hardly comes in and is blurry at best? Was Victoria Secrets an 18 year olds answer to loss of vision and hairy palms? Will RNWK exist when narrowband is replaced by broadband?
How about AOL, do they exist and are they worth more than GM? They don't own the wires, and are totally beholden to the local RBOCS for existence. Will each and every RBOC allow AOL to colocate xDSL modems in their CO's? Will xDSL become a viable alternative? Seems to me AOL is SOL and soon to be a non-existent entity in a broadband world.ATHM and wireless will destroy AOL,they are a narrowband company in a broadband world.
Are we really generating brand equity? Is even YHOO a brand I would stick with? Their message boards and information sources, like their company profiles and insider trading is at best 6 months behind, and possibly a year outdated. YHOO is so far behind in keeping information current, they are non-existent. And is there anything stopping me from moving my information to XCIT or LCOS? No, I already have moved to XCIT my stocks and information. Are all these places nothing more than the hot bar in a neighborhood, and soon everyone is going to move? They have no brand loyalty, they are only as good as their current information. And even then, its all about stocks, and nothing more, when the bubble burst,so does YHOO,GNET and all the others.
