El: I've just finished listening to the Chancellor of the Exchequer in the British Parliament deliver the budget. One of the features was the extent to which the government will encourage the use of computers. All the schools and colleges and institutions are to be involved. There are to be 1,000 computer learning centres (remember Britain has only 53 million population) and every teacher will be financially assisted to own a laptop. 300,000 teachers will get special training in computers. Employees will be able to use employers computers at home without it being taxed as a benefit. And the government will spend £1.7 billion pounds (about $2.6 billion.). Small business will be given consulting in computers, e-commerce and so on.

I don't know who the hardware supplier is going to be but Microsoft is heavily involved in the schools programme.
