It's called a "Dow Joneser" in the PR/IR world. The idea is that if you have good news (which I suspect they considered hitting the numbers they said they would hit good news) you release to Dow Jones and hopefully get a good article out of it. This is fine by SEC disclosure regulations because it also goes on their wire which counts as full disclosure.

Not sure they got the result they wanted.
