Fujitsu and SUN are in certain areas in hard competition,
According to the ROSS balance sheet, these guys invested an additional 6 Mio. plus into R&D. I am not sure, whether Fujitsu is willing to give away "all they have in the SPARC market" (this means ROSS) for a couple of dollars. I believe, that the company has a kind of "intellectual mind value" due to their researches in the processor technology of the future. This type of value is not easy to be "represented" on a balance sheet, BUT ALSO NOT EASY to build from scratch. And I think, that Fujitsu knows this, as well. As much as I would wish to see merging "ROSS with SUNW" - it is simply not making sence because of Fujitsu. If Fujitsu would NOT be the major 60% shareholder of ROSS, then YES: a SUN merger would be more likely, than now. Please, don't forget that this company generated pretty decent money once in the past and they are just about the finish their multi-million Viper 64-bit new-generation processor development - WHILE still generating some money on the 200Mhz CPUs. Well - if I would be Fujitsu, I would not sell. On the other hand Fujitsu is not me and I hope they sell. If they do - then there is not much question about to whom. Time will tell. Latest the 28-FEB-1997. You are right: it seems to be pretty shitty right now, but somehow not shitty enough , that I panic. Well on the other hand, I might be mad too. Who knows ?
