The joke will be on Europe when commodity prices recover, as is certain when the world economy rebounds. They may not care much about costs now; what happens when they put all this in place and it costs them, and base prices go up, and yet there is still no reason for avoiding GM crops? And how might public opinion in the UK change at this point?

Once again, the reason Europe is opposed to GM crops is not really for safety reasons, but is due to the funding of bad science (misinformation, fear) campaigns by the more expensive tier! This is most ironic.

Interesting. It would seem that the UK(EU?) is putting itself at a distinct economic disadvantage which will become increasingly obvious as time goes on. The UK may not care about inflation when it is not high, because it takes this condition for granted. Taking low inflation for granted may not be a good idea...oh, but what do folks like Al Greenspan know -- he's just "one of those Americans"...

(from your article)
"Europe will be forced into a two-tier food system of genetically altered crops and those grown organically that are costlier, he said."
