Hope you don't mind if I jump in here. If I recall correctly MB used IDC figures to support his contention that PC industry declined 10% last year and expects much bigger decline 1999. See his posts # 50354 Dell thread; 103027; 103044;103057 MB thread. (Sorry, I don't know how to put those nifty links into my messages and would appreciate learning how if you know.) Now if IDC says shipments up, dollar volume of shipments up, then I think even MB can't translate that into negative growth. (I suppose he could simply turn around and say that the estimates are hogwash, now that he disagrees with the data, but that would be kind of intellectually dishonest don't ya think?) As a bonus, IDC also shows Dell worldwide share of PC shipments rose from 6.2% to 8.4% in 1998, about 33% increase in worldwide market share in 1 year! (I mention this only because MB made a big deal of noting Dell's sequential decline 3Q to 4Q,which he knew perfectly well to be an affect of 4Q channel stuffing by CPQ IBM and HWP). And that's only PC's, not servers/storage/peripherals where Dell's growth rate has been much higher. Good luck.
