A question on strategies to play the Japanese market.
A side note first. Today SNE (Sony) made a major jump of more than 8 points. I think a lot of monkeys hit the buy button because Snoy announced a major cost-reduction (layoff) plan, which is very aggressive by Japanese standards. I believe this is positive news, but just did not think it was wise to buy with the herd today.
I noticed you sold your EWJ yesterday. My question is, if Japan is close to bottom, and you think that yen will strengthen into the end of the year, why sell now? Is it a short-term trading maneuver? Also, if one is going to buy Japan from here, what will be the best plays? The big caps, like Mitsubishi Bank, Sony, Hitachi, or CEFs like APF and SAF, or juts plain EWJ?
TIA!
