Although CDMA isn't the best technology for carrying big chunks of data, Qualcomm said it likely would be the cheapest and easiest system to deploy in 3G networks for the next couple of years. ????? This is a bizzarre statement. Are they saying that some other better technology may eventually come along? If so, I'll so stipulate. But if they mean that other technologies which are near the point of deployment are better, then I'd like to know what they are. Are they saying that TDMA is better is a fixed line, no interference, situation. Again, I'll agree to that. So what? The only thing that I know of that could eventually be a threat to CDMA in a cell system is some flavor of OFDM, but it is probably about where CDMA cell systems were in the late 80's, and by the time OFDM deploys in its first commercial cell system CDMA will probably be much closer to the theoretical limits.
