<<technology to e-mail via satellite...the guy was a real techie. Before I knew it he called his buddy to bring this unit which was about the size of an answering machine with an antennae.>>

Market is already taken by Motorola and Skytel.

I have a Skytel PageWriter 2000. Little clamshell device fits in the Palm of my hand and clips to my belt. I amaze friends by sending and receiving e-mail.

It's also a two-way pager and I receive stock and news messages on it.

But wait! There's more.

Software packages are avaialbe so that it gets the identical functionality of a 3Com Palm Pilot! Notes, calendaring and alerts, address books, even games are available to be loaded into this device. I love it! Software packages range from $20 to $50 on average.

Also synchronizes with my PC and Mac so if I lose it, I still have backup. I can also update info from a regular PC keyboard so I don't have to use the tiny keys on the device.

Motoral should really push this thing as a Palm Pilot competitor rather than a Paging device. I have my Microsoft Outlook e-mail configured so that important e-mails from boss and clients get sent directly to my pager!

You can probably see these devices either on the Motorola or Skytel corporate websites.
