Scumbria,

Re: incompetent idiots

If you go to the AMD thread you can find a paper given by Jerry on the "Virtual Gorilla" deal he was setting up with Motorola deal. It is quite a brilliant paper and I doubt if it was actually written by him but it makes interesting reading.

If you recall AMD had a deal for foundry with IBM and AMD chose to redo the deal with Mot for Copper in exchange for Flash. they also agreed to use each others fabs for wafer fabrication.

Now based on the poor execution history of AMD's process people why have they not got a wafer second source up and running. It would have made eminent sense to have a 0.18 micron k-3 by now (and in Cu it be running at 500-650 Mhz today). As you recall the k-3 design has basically been done for quite a while except for the cxt tweak.

At LEAST ONE year ago we all knew they had poor execution in process and yields and manufacturing. So based on the fact that they are competing against a true 800 lb gorilla have they not executed their strategy that was outlined so eloquently by Jerry's paper.

And yet they chose to go it alone, betting the farm on a STUPID sole source strategy!!!!

And it looks like they are going to do the same with the K7!!!

In my judgement, everybody makes mistakes.

The smart folks LEARN from their mistakes.

IDIOTS keep repeating the same old mistakes.

AMD still has a golden opportunity with the K7.

I just hope that they have learnt something and are not going it alone again.

Regards,

Kash Johal.
