You choose some stocks which you've diligently researched, pick one, then you and a a few of your trusted associates start accumulating the stock and begin to build a strong base.
When the stock begins to get noticed by others and increasing in price, each of the members sell enough of the shares to recover their original investment, and let the stock ride.
