Milestones.....
I gave this a little more thought after posting the questions. I suppose 50 is a biggie as it represents a life half over if one hopes to live to a 100 (although I doubt many will).
<<Anyway, I suspect you haven't hit any huge milestones yet (because I felt the same way you did until they did). >>
If 50 is huge, what are the ones which are larger?
Consider for a moment a person who passes at say 30 (Jim Croce or Ronnie Van Zant). Was one of their milestones the age of 15? Or say someone passes at 46, was 23 a milestone?
I know what you're saying. One expects to live a normal or above average life expectancy, but really no one knows for sure just when that date will be. Also, perhaps it is a point of contemplation for adding up the events of one's life and seeing if they equal the expectations, or jump start one to do those things which they've always wanted to do. But the truth be know, I suspect it is coming to grips with the fact that one's youth is quickly passing into the twilight of memory. However, I believe we are all just kids. Some of us are just older ones than others.

BTW, are you familiar with a film called "Year of the Horse"? I saw it advertised as coming to Cinemax. Not having seen it, I think it may be a rock documentary of Neil Young's career. Hope its available on video!! (Wouldn't know since we got the satellite dish) |
