Okay, I already acknowledged that the public has cognitive dissonance on this matter. But that was neither the tone nor substance of your post, regardless of your backtracking. In fact, I have expressed repeated skepticism about the reliability of polls, since public opinion is volatile. I have mainly used them to cast doubt on the assertions of others. Thus, when you express confidence about the Democrats winning big in 2000, I post numbers that show that that cannot be taken for granted. When Michelle says that to her extremists are people who deviate much from the majority, I post polls which show that the pro- life position is not, by her definition, extreme. By the way, most candidates are forced to give their position on abortion as it is, and many conservatives do so proudly, so you are quite wrong if you assume that candidates have largely managed to hide their positions, and that if they were known the political landscape would change markedly. |
