fooledalot: CPQ has manufacturing plants in Europe and can and does take advantage of local conditions and currency fluctuations (although it seems to have been caught out in Brazil).

The UK is not in a recession. The manufacturing sector might have been in a recession (defined as two quarters of negative growth). If it was, it was due mainly to the high price of the pound sterling relative to European and the US currencies and the effect this had on exports. Some loss of exports has arisen from economic recession in Asia and Latin America and slow growth in Europe.

However, the pound sterling fell against the dollar recently from about $1.67 to $1.60 and there has been some softening against the Euro. The pick-up in demand from Europe and Asia is also helping a bit. Manufacturers are now more hopeful that the worsed is over.
