Well, your views are as developed as they could be just talking to people in the US.
I have travelled, and spoken to them on their own turf, and I read the papers and watch their reaction to US behavior on the news (good and bad...I admit that there is always a good portion that loves us).
Overall, I'd say that the US has a NET bad image. Why?
Several reasons:
1. We think we're the best, and regardless if we are, that is arrogant.
2. We are viewed as decadent (I think that's absurd...I think other countries are frightened of change, whereas change is part of our culture.
3. We impose our might on other countries with impunity.
4. We impose (or try to) our will with impunity.
5. We would like everyone to be like us (ask some joe shmoe in Dubuque what he thinks of Iran and he'll probably rail against them Muslims and the Ayatollah)...

I'm not omniscient...but I've got a keen sense for a mood.
It's funny how you're willing to engage in a view of "social ecology" yet you'll ignore the larger view when it comes time to take a look at the aggregate.
