There's no replacement for having 2 or 3 brokers ready to lend you shares. I even went to a full service broker as my backup. I use it so far strictly for shorting where my internet broker can't supply my.

Worth every penny of the big commission, and then some!!!!

In seeking prime shorting opps... keep looking for that story stock on a second or third day gapper. Make sure it's a POS to start with.
It was like clockwork with COOL recently, SEVL (took longer than I thought), so many. It's a good starting place, imo!

Newbies note another 'trick' to getting shares: if your broker has shares in the morning, you can reserve them by placing a very high limit order for the stock. Say the shares are trading at 8 and you MIGHT want to short it later in the day, borrow the shares before they are gone, with a limit order to sell short at say 11 1/2. THis will hold your shares without a fill until later in the day when you decide to lower the price, when you decide to add to your position.
