Why would you think that it would be possible to "declare" it worthless in 1998, when people have reported here on this board that they have actually sold shares in 1999? To add to that, you want to sell it in 1999, after "declaring it worthless" in 1998. Seems very strange to me. I suppose it could be stock reincarnation or something.

Good luck with it. You can put anything you want on your tax return, but if you "declare it worthless", you had better hope that you don't get audited.
