RogersSez: One area I like right now: virtually every small electric utility in
the U.S.-- companies like Green Mountain Power in Vermont
and El Paso Electric in Texas. I own both of these stocks. Why?
Partly because I think small electric utilities are reasonably priced
at the moment. Most also pay very attractive dividends, which
provide an underlying level of support for the stock price. What's
more, they also have significant upside potential. As electricity
gets deregulated, many of the small utilities will undoubtedly be
bought out by larger ones. This is what always happens following
the unshackling of an industry. It's 100 percent predictable.

For a bright man whose motorbike won't operate post Y2K, I think he was dropped on his head one too many times at a Harley Rally.

WITHOUT A DOUBT, the most insidious, stealth Y2K leveller will be the massive utility grid downfall. Small utilities will not be snapped up by bigger ones next year...since the "big ones" are going to have such a hit to earnings from lack of revenues, there won't be any play money
to go pirana-ize the small "fry-ed" El Paso's and GreenMtn Pwr in Vermont.

Oh, and buying European defense contractors, interesting idea...but SINCE OUR utes won't be working post Y2K, what percentage of success would YOU give our backwards European cousins of being able to crank their economic dynamos by hand, fast enough to crank out a single threaded 70mm bolt to hold together one teensy armored personnel carrier?

Other than that, his article was filled with interesting commentary. But then it usually is...his orange juice play certainly sucked air, &
his short bonds has made him a potful...wonder if the old sweetie-pie's a buying sugar down here...

and a run LEAD?

Now THAT is the funniest one yet!!!

Thanks, Richard, I wondered what I was going to read w/my campfire java this AM to start out my day right...
