I think you've got the "allowance for doubtful accounts" treatment upside down. TAVA already took the loss in 1997. If TAVA wins, that cash (to the extent the court awards TAVA full or partial recovery) comes into the TAVA treasury. JDN is the authority on this, but I think they could book the cash as a one-time gain to net income. The net effect would have to be that the loss taken in 1997 is reversed. Since most people have forgotten that TAVA already took the loss, it might look best on the books if any incoming cash from Marshall Hyman is surfaced as a one-time gain. Since Kelsall took over, my take on TAVA's accounting has been that he is layering in the potential for positive surprises by taking the pain in 1997.
