ROFL! ' Rep. Henry Thornton today introduced an ammendment to the pending y2k litigation bill which would prohibit, after April 1, 1999, the inclusion in any news article of a standard y2k description.
Asked for comment, Rep. Thornton replied, "I'm so damn sick of reading that one paragraph blurb describing the y2k problem. If people are so thick that they don't know what it is by now, there's literally no hope for them."
Typically, such a description reads as follows: "The millennium problem arises because many older computers record dates using only the last two digits of the year. If left uncorrected, such systems could treat the year 2000 as the year 1900, generating errors or system crashes next Jan. 1."
Experts agree that the reprinting of this 'blurb' from early 1998 through the end of 1999 will consume approximately 250,000 gallons of ink and 240 tons of newsprint.
"It's an incredible waste" said Thornton, who then went on to express his satisfaction that "Such stupid people will be and should be part of the great burn-off." "In fact" he said, "I'm looking forward to it."
