Where do these guys come from?
When CPQ has to go back to INTC because there are no next generation chips from AMD, does anybody think INTC won't remember who crushed margins?
When Alpha sells in volume because there are no next generation 64 bit chips from Intel, I bet they'll remember that too. So what? Intel still gives CPQ the best prices in the industry. Why? CPQ is Intel's biggest customer. AMD's K7 goes away from the current architecture. Think MSFT is going to have resources to fix windows2000 (or is that windows2001?) to run on the new architecture?
That's ignorant. the architecture changes are hardware - AMD is using the Alpha bus instead of the Intel one, because it's twice as fast, and because CPQ will share the technology. There enhanced features in the K7 which will eventually be used if they are useful. How well are those Intel MMX instructions being used? Microsoft never did anything to use or support MMX except as a pass-through.

CPQ looks to be trying out the same model--they've ruined their margins (and reputation) with the AMD strategy."
CPQ margins on AMD based machines were better than DELL margins on their mainstream Intel based products. Maybe he meant AMD's margins???

Thanks for the laugh
