Bosco, I agree with what you're saying. But didn't Nortel change its name from Northern Telecom to Nortel before becoming Nortel Networks? Hasn't this been going on for a long time already? The transition from Northern Telecom to Nortel should have been carried out last year (or before, as I don't know when that name change was announced), and the transition from Nortel to Nortel Networks should be going on now. But that's not the case, there are still references to Northern Telecom more than a year after that name became obsolete. I would also be less concerned if both names were used in an article or news show, as that would help the transition along.
Another example of this lack of attention to details. I live in the Boston area, and the local news radio station here (WBZ) reports the closing prices for large Massachusetts employers. After the Bay Networks takeover, Nortel Networks certainly fits into that category. However, Nortel Networks stock price is not announced, and Nortel loses another opportunity for free promotion. This may have changed, as I have not listened to that report in a while, but Nortel was not included for months after the takeover. John Roth and Dave House want Nortel Networks to become valued in the same class as Cisco or Lucent, but how will this happen if the legwork to set the stage for this kind of recognition is not being done?
