Corel Corp. (COSFF) often reminds investors of that dismembered knight in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." Its limbs may be gone, but damned if it isn't lunging at Microsoft again, trying to bite its kneecaps....

Zona Research Director Martin Marshall interpreted Corel's Linux desktop announcement as yet more proof that the company is casting about desperately for its next hit. Marshall points out that major Corel announcements in the past, such as development of an NC terminal and the Corel Office for Java product, were never brought to market. He says Corel sees Linux as the life preserver that gets it back to dry land.
