Technology Stocks : Novell (NOVL) dirt cheap, good buy?

While merging makes sense to big business in terms of "controlling" costs and products, it doesn't always make the best sense technologically speaking.

Simplifying everything doesn't necessarily make it better. I always thought that's what started Microsoft down it's path to oblivion....

Besides, Oracle already has it's on directory services product in the works (announced last week) and something of an operating system (announced this past December) so based on that, I don't see them buying NOVL anytime soon.

I'd much rather see NOVL buy something like HP's OpenView software or merge with Caldera (remember Noorda?).

I should say that Novell and Oracle do have one rosy relationship right now so I could be wrong...
