I agree that they are well paid, but only 20% of the total is salary and bonus for those guys. If they don't keep the stock moving up they will suck wind pretty quick.

I believe that the bonus is adjusted based on performance against similar companies in the sector, and absolute performance. The salary is relatively constant. I have been told that EP's base salary is about $300K (I think that was also in the fortune article last year)So it looks to me like EP went from a bonus of $1.3M to one of about $500K. He got whacked for poor performance, then given options which will only be worth something if he gets things rolling again.

I have always been impressed by CPQ's board, even when I wondered about their executives (like now).
