Oh I am sure there are more such cases and will always be. But my
point was that Microsoft is the king of PC operating system and the
world has come to (reluctantly) get used to MSFT's UI and way of
doing things. As bad as it maybe this is the fact and one has to
accept it. And whoever comes in the way of MSFT is either crushed
or has been forced to adapt to MSFT's way of doing things. I was
reading an article the other day in Times and it was talking about a
sign in Bill Gates office which reads:"...and only the paranoid
survived!". Apparently Bill Gates got this from Andy Grove of Intel.
Anyway MSFT is paranoid and because of that they do anything they
can to either be better than everyone else or to crush everyone else!
Sun is the only one so far that has been a real challenge to them and
one that they can not crush or ignore! Sun has actually made them
change their entire strategy and business model and without them
knowing it they have become sort of like "Telll us jump and we ask
how much!" sort of like company that are bending over to Sun's
innovation of COM and a true open software architecture. This is
great for Sun. MSFT is embracing Sun's innovation and because
of its dominat position it will be pushing that technology throughout
the world and that is nothing but good news for Sun and whoever
makes servers and NCs (and all related hardware companies that
make the stuff to build a server or NC)!
You see its sort of like the movie: Its a wounderful life! Just as
everyone's life is chained together and every person's behavior and
life effects everyone else's and so on, MSFT's embracing of Sun's
innovation will effect the entire internet/technology sector. Now who
cares if MSFT makes bad software or the quality is poor. They are
the dominant force in the software industry and they can afford being
the BAD boy in the block. Now if Sun benefits from them GREATLY
then so be it! Let them be bad, and if like me you are also a MSFT
share holder you dont (and should not) care if their software is bad
or not; As long as they sell it and make great profits and in the
process cause SUNW and ASPX type of companies to make a lot
of money then who cares! Let them be manipulated by Sun to
advocate Java, and JavaBeans in any form or shape they want. All
I care about as a share holder is for my shares to go up and then
to be able to pay off my house, buy a second house and buy a
couple of BMWs, a Mercedez and a lot of cash in my checking
account in the process!!!
