To Ampex Investors,
In the previous message, I described several recently granted patents, that were issued to Ampex. In so doing I mentioned a certain missing function, i.e. a MR head optimized to work with a KM magnetic storage system. I further speculated that the "MR head" (#5,830,590) might be used to fill that bill.
However, as I looked further into the arsenal of patents of Ampex, I found the actual "missing link", just recently issued, Feb 9, 1999. Patent #5,870,260 "Magnetic recording system having a saturable layer and detection using MR element." Date filed, May 23,1997.
Taking into consideration all of the previously mentioned patents, all the pieces are there.
The fruits of this fundamental research can be drawn upon, when and if needed, as the requirements for more and more storage capacity escalates. Which will surely happen as VOD, streaming media, come online and TVonWebb increases its channels...etc.
Also, as the magnetic density continues to increase, there comes a point where thermal degradation begins to occur. At that point, KM could be utilized to help alleviate that problem, for ANY magnetic storage company that has the problem, creating possibly additional revenues for Ampex.
