500,000 subscriber capacity by the end of 1999. In making this decision GMGC is gearing to the future not the short term.

The decision was clearly made based upon growth projections. Therefore committements from telcos is clearly not far off.

The telcos must be pleased that GMGC will not compete with them in signing Portico subscribers. In fact that is probably a factor that may have stood in the way of signing up some telcos.
