No, we weren't the first to bomb Iraqi nuclear facilities. The Israelis beat us to the punch by at least five years. Your worries about the aftermath of bombing Iraqi nuclear facilities are misdirected. The effects on our environment would be far more significant had we not destroyed those weapons grade material production plants. Something about nuclear warheads in the hands of sociopathic, megalomaniac dictators that even Green Peace seems to dislike.

As far as the depleted uranium, I understand that it really did make a long term mess of a considerable amount of Iraqi territory. But, you know, there's just nothing like good old DU when it comes to punching white hot holes in armor. And look at it this way. As long as we keep destroying Iraqi nuclear facilities, they won't have any uranium to fire back at us, depleted or otherwise.
