I believe that our talented kids need to rub elbows with real scientists as well as challenging teachers.

I grew up in Los Alamos, and the exposure to top technology and scientists was fundamental in shaping my career choice. Taking a morning field trip to see a controlled nuclear fusion project can have quite an impact on a child.

National Labs are a tremendous resource, and they offer a number of different educational and work-study opportunities for high school and above. I highly recommend looking into programs like this:
