Jim, Like I just said to taxman. Lets bring up this issue next year. when the DS technology starts to take off. This year is the year when industry players in the Internet (ISP and telcos) start to realize the shier power of a DS and how it can benefit them.

Next year will be the year when the ISPs begin entrenching the use of DS's (like NDS) as their underlying infrastructure to provide a multitude of Internet services and products.

NOVL is officially taking the wraps of their first big Internet service at Brainshare in two weeks. Its called Digital-ME. I have seen this service and its incredible! Imagine an Internet whereby you only have to worry about maintaining one Digital Personna. In other words, you wont have to remember your ID/Passowrd that you used for the many different Internet services (like SI) that you subscribe to. You wont have to change your credit card info at each of these sites when your credit card expires. You can communicate with others with this single identity. You can securely provide contact information about yourself to those other persons on the Internet.

This will all be possible with NOVL's new Digital-ME. This will be an NDS/XML service that people can use on the Internet. All your information for each of these services would be stored in one central NDS tree. When you login to the Digital-ME site, all the Internet services will appear as banners on your personal home page (i.e. SI, Delta, Amazon, etc.). Then you simply click on the desired banner and you are in to that site. No login prompts.

This is only the first of what NOVL has promised will be 10 similar type NDS-enabled services.

So Jim, you can stick your head in the sand and say that Directory Services will not be a big factor in the industry, but the telcos, ISPs, OEMs, and even MSFT knows that it is VERY IMPORTANT!!

Good thing you dont run MSFT.
