Unfortunately, Discover Mag.hasn't posted the April edition yet. For those of you who would like to read the info ASAP, pick up a copy at your nearest newstand. It's must reading for investors in PLFM.

One company, Kelly Space and Technology has designed a three stage reusable launch vehicle. The first stage is a Boeing 747. The 747 tows the second stage to 20,000 ft. The second stage is an old L10ll that has been gutted and retrofitted with modified wings and a Russian rocket engine. It's job is to go to an altitude of 75 miles. At this point, pilots level off, open a door in the nose of the plane. Out pops the third stage: a small rocket with just enough oomph to nudge the payload into stable orbit. The stage one and two vehicles return and land. The company figures it needs another $300 mil in order to be ready for the first launch by 2002.

Another company, Kistler Aerospace in Redmond, Washington, has managed to nab 46 of the Russians best rocket engines (which, by the way, produce 20% more thrust than the Saturn V engines, and use kerosene as fuel).

There is a lot more. Sorry I couldn't bring it over from the Discover site. George
