<How certain are you that S-CDMA is only an option to Broadcom's proposed upstream scheme?>

I heard it from a person who was there, but there is a relevant update. After the vote in November, the task force charged with implementing it as an option has decided (with Cable Labs support/insistence) that it is too hard technically to have the S-CDMA as an optional feature, so they have re-submitted the proposal to make it mandatory. That will be voted on by the entire working group this month, and is expected to pass. This will be good for Terayon, since it gives them the opportunity to be first to market with DOCSIS 1.2 compliant head-ends. This is the advantage of making systems as well as chips, plus they have the background in working with the previously-proprietary S-CDMA modulation, which Cisco and Nortel will have to take time to understand. This time-to-market advantage is the primary reason Lucent is interested (IMHO), and the Lucent interest in turn is the only reason for this stock to be above your $12 target.

On the integrated RF question, no-one has it today and I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Broadcom has hinted at it and Connexant has promised it. I wasn't suggesting that Terayon is behind others, but only that it represents the next opportunity for significant cost reduction. I would not be surprised to see them miss the date-there are significant issues of power consumption in the RF integration which run counter to the push to reduce power to allow for life-line telephony service.

My final rumor-Lucent will also buy Libit. And just so we are keeping biases straight, I remain neither short nor long.
