Anyone see last night's Wall $treet Week? Merrill Lynch telecommunications analyst weighed in and stated that local telephone companies ARE benefiting financially from the Internet, with increased demand for new telephone lines.

Stated Internet was long term threat to long distance carriers if users evade them by using the net for voice.

ML views confirm that local telcos are just trying to grab revenue with proposed rule changes, rather than restructure themselves for a newly competitive world.
