Intl Data/PC Demand -3: Sees U.S. 1Q Mkt Growth Up 19.3%

International Data Corp. expects the U.S. market to grow 19.3%, the strongest boost of any region in the first quarter, while the Western European market is expected to see growth of 15.1% compared with a year ago.

The information technology data company estimates first quarter growth in the Asia/Pacific Market - excluding Japan - will rise 14% from a year ago, based on strength in the Chinese, Indian and Australian regions.

The company also said Japan's volume growth for the first quarter should approach 6% as part of a "soft rebound."

Vendors expected to gain market share on this quarter, on a sequential basis, include Gateway 2000 Inc. (GTW), Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ), eMachines, and possibly Apple Computer Inc. (AAPL).
