Intl Data/PC Demand -2: Sees 1999 PC Volume Up 14.3%

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (Dow Jones)--International Data Corp. (IDC) expects first quarter demand for personal computers to rise 14.1% from a year ago.

In a press release Thursday, the company said it expects 1999 PC volume to grow 14.3% to 103.2 million, led by the U.S. and Western European markets.

International Data also expects 1999 PC shipment value to increase 4.8% to $178.4 billion from a year ago.

The company also said the industry will be affected by Y2K spending and a "resilient" portable PC market.
