I humbly submit that your understanding, as stated above, is way off the mark! The Yahoo news item states that Microsoft is choosing to defer recognizing $400M of revenue (which will be realized this Q) till next Q, and the resultant impact on earnings (?8c) will be made up for from "investment income"(not sale of stock etc.)
The take home message is that the there is absolutely no change in guidance in the earnings number for this Q.
