HELP!!! I'M SO CONFUSED.
- If I fill up my gas tank 5/8 full everything's OK and I'm "preparing".
- But, if I fill up my gas tank, I'm "panicking"?

Wonder if it matters how big my gas tank is? If I have a small gas tank, think I could still fill it up and not be accused of panic buying?

FEMA BULLETIN: BE PREPARED
fema.com
The President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion says the transition to Y2K is not a cause for you to disrupt your life ... JOHN KOSKINEN, chairman of the President's Council [says] Personal preparedness for transition to the Year 2000 is no different from ways you prepare for the usual WINTER STORM. As always, you should have batteries for flashlights and radios, a three day supply of water and non perishable goods, and AT LEAST A HALF TANK OF GAS.

And the RED CROSS tells me this ...

"Similar to preparing for a winter storm, it is suggested that you keep your automobile GAS TANK ABOVE HALF FULL."

RED CROSS: Y2K WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

But, if I should prepare for Y2K the same way as for a winter storm, why did the Red Cross tell me this??

WINTER STORMS: "KEEP YOUR CAR'S GAS TANK FULL FOR EMERGENCY USE AND TO KEEP THE FUEL LINE FROM FREEZING."
redcross.org

Hmmmmmmm - Maybe it's OK to fill your tank if you live up north so your fuel line doesn't freeze. But if you live in the south you should only fill it up just over half? But, not if you live on the coast cause Red Cross tells us to FILL UP OUR TANKS for Hurricanes too.
redcross.org

If I'm supposed to prepare for Y2K like I would for a hurricane or for a winter storm, what am I supposed to do? Fill up my tank? Fill it up just over half? Hmmmm - What's a poor girl to do?

I'M SOOOOOOOOOO CONFUSED

"ACTIONS THAT INDIVIDUALLY LOOK LOGICAL ... like FILLING UP YOUR GAS TANK on December 31, taking $1000 out of the bank, buying twice as many prescription drugs as you usually do, taking 20-30 percent of your IRA money out of the market -- A COUPLE HUNDRED MILLION AMERICANS ALL DO THAT AT ONE TIME YOU'VE GOT YOURSELF A MAJOR PROBLEM,'' KOSKINEN said ...
