Plenty to do in the Philippines; it's a subject I'm inclined to go on about, as I literally wrote the book on it. Action Asia, a magazine which covers Adventure Sports throughout Asia, just came out with an adventure travel guide to the Philippines; I wrote about 75% of it, a fair bit of writing, as it runs something over 500pp. Glad it's done, frankly, should be on sale this month.
My own sports are whitewater and sea kayaking, trekking whatever mountains and jungles I can get my feet onto, and a bit of rock climbing; I like snorkeling, but can't dive; I'm asthmatic and the doctors and the divers agree that it wouldn't be a good idea. Too bad, as there are a number of good wreck dives in my front yard.
Lots of good surfing here, mostly on the east (Pacific) coast, mostly pretty hard to get to and not very developed. Some on the China Sea side, mostly for beginners/intermediates, better access. Lots of good diving, plenty of beaches, as you'd expect with 7000+ islands. Lots of good treks, particularly in the backcountry areas where the indigenous tribes still hang on.
