Zeev; The increased temperature makes the reaction go faster, each 10 degree C increase doubles the rate of reaction. This cuts the time in the equipment in half. So you can then use smaller equipment to get the same production rate. I assume they recover the heat as bets they can so save $$. In some cases they actually autoclave the materials. by heating over 100 C under ppressure to get a much faster rate. Do not forget that gold was mobilized originally with CO2, SO2, SIO2, Cl and other ions under high temp and pressure. They may be doing this as it may be possible to mobilise the gold this way at 300+ C and 10,000 PSI. Expensive and unlikley though. from what I hear they do it under the boiling point at room pressure. The fine grinding also increases the rate as it makes more surface area available to react/dissolve. This may indicate a solubility product driven differential extraction, but who knows. I have asked for a few samples of Petzite and Krennerite and I am going to try to see if I can mobilise the gold in the presence of chloride at high temp, as I vary the other variables and see if my liquid goes white and milky?? indicating silver chloride in solution, and the gold and tellurium will be liberated as gold and tellurium ions, and AgCL2 will precipitate out and the party continiues.
